Unity “Holding Shapes Together” via Proximity

The following are devices that give shapes a sense of organization and unity (other than repetition);

Overlapping – shapes unifying through overlapping contact with each other

Abutting - shapes simply placed next to(abutting) one another.   Shape touches shape, create a shared edge.

Interlocking – hold shapes together by interlocking them like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.

Mutual Tension – pieces are placed close enough for a sort of “gravitational pull” to exist between them, giving the area of separation a compelling sense of tension.

Suggestions of Continuity – shape hold together by the suggestion that they form a continuous whole.  aka  Continuation or Leading the Eye
